The Austrian initiative FIT – Women in Technology has arranged the project Generation Innovation that aims at bringing together pupils and students from all educational and social backgrounds with researchers and scientists. Pupils shall intensify contact with science and shall be attracted to these subjects. The special feature of Generation Innovation offers internships for school students from 10th grade on who are interested in summer internships in the field of science and technology.

The goal is to respond to new requirements that develop from contemporary living and working environment. These requirements consist of rapidly altering demands on young people. Thus, education and innovation policies need to develop strategies that enable youn people to gain key competences. Experimental and hands-on learning help to exploit potential of young people. Pupils who like to get involved and be engaged in science nd technolgy have the opportunity to absolve internships in research facilities and local companies in summer.

One of the projects' guidelines is the fact that young rearchers are experts in demand. Teachers as central mediators of natural scientific and technical skills shall also be adressed. Contacts between companies and research facilities and young people are of value, especially for the future. Experimental learning is the condition for acquiring key competences. This is the point where Generation Innovation initiates ist measures:

- internships for pupils

- research checks for educational institutions

- mentoring.
